Awareness Enhancing Seminar on the need to mainstreaming of MSBs Conservation Considerations into the energy sector
As part of the Migratory Soaring Birds (MSBs)-Energy project activities, EWNHS has organized a one-day workshop on June 17, 2021 in Addis Ababa, Azzeman Hotel. The purpose of the workshop is to enhance awareness of the key staffs of Ethiopian Electric Utility (EEU), Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) and Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Authority (EWCA) and other stakeholders on the need to mainstreaming of MSBs conservation considerations into the energy sector.
The topics presented in this seminar were “Challenges that Migratory Soaring Birds of the Rift Valley/Red Flyway facing with emphasis to the energy sector” by Mr. Mekonnen Biru, ‘’An Overview of Egyptian vulture conservation project” by Mr. Solomon Mengistu, ‘A report on findings of the assessment of Dangerous Energy Infrastructures undertaken in parts of the rift valleys of Ethiopia” in a joint mission with EEU and EEP experts’ by Mr. Mekonnen Biru and draft documents that support our joint endeavors of bird conservation ‘’Capacity Improvement Strategy’ developed by EEU and EEP experts” by Yohannes Almaw were presented and discussed. The seminar enabled the participants to realize impacts of bird unfriendly Energy infrastructures on Migratory Soaring Birds and other birds in Ethiopia. The seminar enabled the participants to realize the problems and emphasize on the urgency of protecting birds fatality occurring due to bird unsafe energy infrastructures.
The seminar was attended by directors and experts of Environment, Health and Standard, Engendering, quality and Research, Transmission-substation construction, Research and Communication directorates of EEU, EEP, EWCA and Ethiopian Energy Authority
