Consultative Workshop for White-Winged Flufftail

EWNHS participated on a consultative workshop which will have a detrimental impact on the conservation of the critically endangered bird: The White-winged flufftail. It was held on Saturday August 6 2022 at Holeta research institute, Holeta town Ethiopia. Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Authority and Oromia Environment Authority collaborated to make this workshop a reality. The main objective of the workshop was to discuss conservation, development and re-demarcation of the upper Berga wetland to include the key breeding habitats of White-winged flufftail.

Soon after blessing of elders and welcoming speech by Mr. Kumera Wakjira (EWCA) and Mr.Tsegaye Makonnen (West Shoa Zone Administration), Mr. Miheret Ewnetu (EWCA) gave a deep insight on the Ecological, Socio economic significance of the Berga Wetland and its future conservation implications. Mr. Abiot Hailu continued briefing about the upper Berga wetland demarcation and related present activities. Facilitator of the day Mr. Dawed Mume then opened the floor for discussion. Participants forwarded questions and comments which was matched by relevant reply.

Closing remark was made by Mr. Kumera Wakjra to mark the conclusion of the workshop after participants came to consonance on the way forward. The workshop was funded by AEWA secretariat.
